Check/adjustment of a gap of valves

E1, EZ, E5, VZ, V5, V6 engines to 9/89 g of the issue, PN

For compensation of various thermal expansions in the distributive mechanism there has to be a certain gap of valves.

At too small gap gas distribution phases change, there is unsatisfactory a compression, engine capacity decreases, the engine works unstably. In extreme cases valves or saddles of valves can be deformed.

At too big gap there is very strong mechanical noise, gas distribution phases change, owing to too short time of opening of valves the engine does not develop the maximum power, the engine works unstably. Adjustment of valves achieves desirable result only if valves faultlessly condense, have no inadmissible side play in guides and are not brought down on the ends of cores.

The gap of valves is checked and regulated within maintenance, see the Section Technology of Service, tools and the equipment of a workplace, and after repair or if in the distributive mechanism noise appeared. The gap of valves is checked and regulated on the heated-up engine. The working condition of the engine is reached by a trip on 10-15 km under normal conditions when the index of temperature is in average area.

Petrol engine

Check

  1. To uncover a head of cylinders.
  2. To install the piston of the 1st cylinder in the provision of VMT, see the Section Removal and installation of a gear belt of VZ, V5, B6 (SOHC), BP engines (SOHC).
  3. For a provorachivaniye of the crankshaft to include the 5th or 4th transfer and to shift the car on a plain surface. Other opportunity to turn the crankshaft: To lift a forward wheel, to include the 5th or 4th transfer and to turn a wheel a hand.
  4. To check whether have the yokes relating to the 1st cylinder on the valve a small gap, and yokes of the 4th cylinder densely adjoin. If it not so, the crankshaft it is necessary to turn on 1 whole revolution.
  1. To check and if necessary to adjust a gap of the inlet valve of the 1st cylinder (E1) and the 2nd cylinder (E2), the final 1st cylinder (A1) and the 3rd cylinder (AZ) by means of the probe.
  1. To measure a gap between the valve and a yoke. Adjusting values see in the table.
  1. The probe has to be dragged with effort, otherwise adjust a gap.
  2. To turn the crankshaft on one turn (360 °) is farther until the mark in a belt pulley coincides with a mark in a cover of a driving belt.
  3. To check and if necessary to adjust a gap of the inlet valve of the 3rd cylinder (EZ) and the 4th cylinder (E4), and also the final 2nd cylinder (A2) and the 4th cylinder (A4).
  4. The probe has to pass with effort, otherwise adjust a gap.

Adjustment

  1. If value does not correspond to demanded, to weaken a lock-nut a usual or cap key on 1 turn. At the same time to hold the adjusting screw the screw-driver.
  2. To turn the adjusting screw the screw-driver and to adjust a valve gap.
  3. Then to fix the adjusting screw by a lock-nut.
  4. To double-check a valve gap.
  5. In the same way to check and adjust a gap of all valves.

It is expedient to mark yokes of already adjusted valves with chalk.

Diesel engine

  1. To remove the air filter, see the Head the Power supply system, the carburetor, system of injection of fuel, the Section Removal and installation of the air filter.
  2. To uncover a head of cylinders.
  3. To install the piston of the 1st cylinder in the provision of VMT, see the Head the Diesel engine.
  4. For a provorachivaniye of the crankshaft to include the 5th or 4th transfer and to shift the car on a plain surface. Other opportunity to turn the crankshaft: to lift a forward wheel, to include the 5th or 4th transfer and to turn a wheel a hand.
